Teaching

I believe that in order to create a classroom conducive to learning one must begin with respect.  I feel strongly that students should always be treated with the utmost respect.  I encourage students to utilize critical thinking and I respond to students in a professional manner.  This helps build rapport in the classroom and gain trust.  I incorporate my 25 years of experience working in the human services field and my 11 years in the classroom to express mastery of the subject matter.

I currently serve as the department chair for the Community Health and Justice Department.

Presently, I provide instruction to Human Services students and Chemical Dependency Counseling students who are conducting their required practicum.  These students are working out in the field for area agencies.  As the faculty member assigned to these students as their field supervisor, I have been offered the opportunity to have a number of contacts with our local human services agencies.  It has given me the chance to represent the College and its programs within the community.
